It is true! You can actually hijack an anti air wraith on campaign mode. It is really hard, but here are the steps.
1. Kill all enemies near anti air wraith ang gunner if there is one.
2.Jump on top of the Wraith and find the cockpit(its the golden part on the front of the Wraith)
3.Keep meleeing that part until it comes open and you can see the Brute
4. Right now you should see on your screen press RB to hijack it (DONT PRESS RB YET). Manuever yourself on the Wraith until you can both, shoot the driver and not the Wraith itself and do not see press RB to hijack it
5. If Hold RB to hijack isnt on your screen then hold RB while shooting the Brute pilot in the head. Make sure you are shooting the pilot by seeing if he screams or move around when you try to shoot him.
6. Keep holding RB and shooting him and then when he is dead you will automatically get into the Wraith.

This is a really easy way to get through the level The Covenent, but don't try this on legendary, trust me.

Mistassailant, you may want to post a video telling how to do some of this. I'll take the liberty of it this time, but don't rely on me for it all the time.

Realy hard? Its easy as pie.. I can run in and get on legendary with most enemys around. Let me get some pictures and ill post them here showing the steps

whats so good about the anti air wraith. Sure its a different gun, but why did bungie
1) go to all the trouble of stopping you from getting it normally
2) bother making a player code for it if you weren't supposed to get it anyway
3) not give it a completely badass gun for when you did get it (like the scarab gun)

To answer your questions:

1. They were sticking to the storyline. You are meant to destroy the anti-air wraiths, not use them yourselves.

2. I guess they wanted people to keep playing the campaign to try to find how to do it, and not be dissapointed when they were successful.

3. They probably didn't want it to be overpowered.
